WASH is essential for healthy living
Access to safe drinking water and education on hygiene in schools and communities with special attention on children and adolescent girls
OVERVIEW
Growing up in a clean and safe environment is every child’s right. Our aim is to facilitate schools and communities with access to clean drinking water, safe sanitation and handwashing facilities by building these through activity-based hygiene education programs and practices that children not only thrive, but also give them a healthy start in life.
Although this entire program is gender-neutral, the focus doesn’t shift from girls as bringing them up to speed with healthy practices, like maintaining of personal hygiene during puberty and menstrual cycles, remains a challenge at the grassroots. We provide education and support services that help more girls better manage their menstruation cycle.
Our prime effort is to make schools, students and communities aware of the importance that we must attach to good sanitation and hygiene in order to create resilient communities living in healthy environments.
For communities exclusively, we teach:
We work in close collaboration with governments, the private sector, academia, civil society organizations, and communities to improve systems and practices that complement the UN SDG-6 challenges.
This involves providing accessible clean water, toilets, and good hygiene education and practices that are child-friendly and inclusive.
This involves strengthening the ownership of institutions such as school management committees, school development plans, and operation and maintenance to ensure that WASH facilities are sustainable.
This involves engaging with students who are part of WASH clubs in schools, to help them become advocates for WASH issues and promote good hygiene practices in their communities.
This involves initiating hygiene and behavior change with a focus on menstrual hygiene management and preventive measures against contagious diseases.
Monitoring and evaluation are key components to ensure that the interventions are effective and that the intended outcomes are achieved.
Collaboration with government bodies, NGOs, and other stakeholders is essential to create a sustainable impact in WASH interventions.
Our focus area is to ensure equitable, sustainable, and affordable access to clean water, sanitation facilities, and hygiene education for people, with a special focus on adolescent girls in primary and secondary schools, as well as marginalized communities.
SM-PACT India Foundation's related programs strive to improve the lives of marginalized individuals, particularly women and children, by achieving SDG targets and creating positive social impact.
